Chapter 17: Song Practice (V)

To conclude this unit of basic songs, the ever popular song, Jaya Radha Madhava, will be discussed here. This is a very straightforward song with one asthayi and three antaras. As you will see, the second and third antaras are very much similar, with some minor differences. However, they will be taught as separate antaras.

AUTHOR’S NOTE: I do understand that there are many ways to play this song, even though the asthayi is essentially the same. Having said that, even though the asthayi is the same, I have heard this song in Kafi Thāt, Bhairavi Thāt (Sindhu Bhairavi), Asavari Thāt (this one is a Darbari rāga version). Therefore, I presented a purer form of Darbari, as this presentation is in an educational-musical context.
