Chapter 26: Song Practice (XI)

An ecstatic song during any Harinama kirtan or temple kirtan is Hari Haraye Namah. There are at least three common tunes in practice; the most common traditional Bengali one is used here. As far as the swars are concerned, it is very straightforward with special care needed at the upbeats portion of the song in asthayi. Structurally, the asthayi and antara are present. However, the form has been so loose that it is not uncommon to hear the asthayi sung throughout. The form presented below is a possibility of how to sing this song, given that one returns to verse 1 after completing each verse.
