Upatala
Jhampaka tala, also known as Rupam tala, is rare eight and half matra tabla
tala. Although this tala, by matra number alone, may scare off someone playing
this, this is essentially jhaptala with matras 8 to 10 compressed in one and
half matras. Due to its flow, it is considered a khanda jati (since jhaptal is
five matras), rather than a “neighboring catastra or sankirna jati.”
