KKSongs Tanpura Tutorial
Welcome to the KKSongs Tanpura page! This page will
contain information about Indian instrument called the tanpura. The tanpura is
a fretless drone instrument which has a body similar to a sitar. Unlike the
sitar, the tanpura does not play melody, does not have frets, or sympathetic strings.
The tanpura is a simple four stringed instrument that is strummed throughout a
musical piece to emphasize the drone. Even though its use is found in classical
and semiclassical forms of music, the tanpura can be used in any field of
music.
