Rupak
tala is the most commonly used cycle amongst the seven-beat cycles. It is found
in semi-classical compositions as well as bhajans and thumris. This tala,
according to many musicians, is the only tala bearing a khali on the sam. The
sam, however, is the start of the cycle and it should be most forceful, even if
the baya has no use. This diagram shows the tala having a tali on three
divisions and have no khalis.
